88th MARLOW AWARD PRESENTED AT SOUTHAMPTON BOAT SHOW

Clementine Thompson
Marlow Ropes will present the 88th recipient of the Marlow Award at this year’s Southampton Boat Show in September.
Laser Radial sailor, Clementine Thompson, has been selected as the first winner of the new look Marlow Ropes British Sailing Team Quarterly Award after creating a video that demonstrated her passion for the sport and commitment to excellence.
2017 marks the 15th year of the Marlow Award scheme that started in 2002 when it was awarded to Stevie Morrison/Ben Rhodes and Nick Asher/ Elliot Willis. The Award, moved to a quarterly fixture from 2006, always aims to recognise and reward Britain’s most promising young sailors for their determination, focus and talent.
Other past winners of the award include Luke Patience, silver medallist of London 2012, 2016 Olympic Finn gold medallist Giles Scott, and Hannah Mills who also won gold in Rio in the 470 category alongside Saskia Clark.
Paul Honess of Marlow Ropes said “We introduced the Marlow Award in 2002 to support up and coming sailors. It is our way of recognising those sailors who show determination, focus and of course, talent for sailing.”
Marlow Rope also provides the Award winner with in excess of £2,500 of equipment and the recognition and prestige of being the Award recipient.
Barrie Edgington, the British Sailing Team’s Podium Potential manager said: “The Marlow award makes a real difference to promising young sailors and has gained aspirational status among budding sailors.”
Marlow Ropes is at The Southampton Boat Show, Stand J300 from 15-24 September.
