Marina Port de Mallorca hosted its annual seabed clean-up day, reaffirming its ongoing commitment to protecting the marine environment and promoting sustainability.

Supported by STP Shipyard Palma’s expert diving team, the clean-up uncovered a surprising array of debris on the seabed — from supermarket trolleys and tyres to other everyday items discarded over the season. By the end of the day, an impressive 1.140 kilos of rubbish had been recovered from the water.

José María Marroig, Harbourmaster of Marina Port de Mallorca, stressed that: “These clean-ups are a vital part of our duty as a marina. They allow us to keep the seabed in the best possible conditions while also raising awareness about the importance of taking care of the sea around us and the marina in particular.”

The marina, which holds environmental certifications such as ISO 14001, EMAS, Blue Flag and the Spanish Carbon Footprint Certificate, enforces an active policy of marine environment protection and continuous improvement in its management practices.

This action complements other environmental initiatives that Marina Port de Mallorca carries out throughout the year, such as its collaboration in the research project on invasive species in port environments, the visit of the Sea Plastics scientific expedition and an educational project with the Santa Magdalena Sofía School and Palma Aquarium, in which students visited the marina to continue their research on the marine ecosystem.

With these measures, Marina Port de Mallorca reinforces its position as a benchmark in the responsible and sustainable management of yachting facilities in the Balearic Islands.
