Broker's Comments
This Thames Lighter is a beautifully converted Lighter barge that is full of character and history. This barge was built around 1935 on the River Thames, as a working Lighter Barge. Upon retirement from working service, the barge moved to Little Venice, where she became a delightful and popular bistro and bar. The barge then moved further along the Thames to her current home in 1996, where a survey was completed, recommended works and an extensive refit undertaken. This refit converted the barge into the attractive and thoughtfully designed, completed and modernised living space we see today.
The open layout gives a wonderful feel of space and light throughout. As you enter, there is a large, open-plan galley, dining area and saloon, with a cosy multifuel stove and plenty of additional space for family, friends and entertaining. Further forward, there is a spacious, double cabin, complete with wardrobes, a dressing table and ample storage. The aft cabin has been used as a storage facility, but could be converted back to a single berth. The second double berth, is cleverly housed in the wheelhouse. This gives the effect of a mezzanine bedroom, with plenty of light and attractive views. Outside, there is acres of space for both storage and living, including both an aft deck and foredeck space.
Whilst visiting the boat, there is an impression that no expense had been spared in the previous ownership, on investing in the presentation and living experience, including the stylish fixtures and fittings within each room. Overall, there is a delightful feeling of comfort, character and space that really makes this houseboat a treasure.
If you are looking for a potential unique home, a holiday home or investment opportunity, this barge is certainly an opportunity you should consider.
There is a potential of 6 months free storage available, on purchase of this vessel. The furniture is included.
