Broker's Comments
After selling his share of Columbia Yachts In 1970 Co Founder Vince Lazzara founded Gulfstar Yachts in the Tampa Bay area of Florida. In 1971 he began building low-priced, budget-friendly, beamy boats. By the mid-1980s, these center cockpit comfortable boats became very popular in the bareboat charter fleet in the Bahamas & the Caribbean.
The early and mid 80's were considered Gulfstar's 'Golden Era' of yacht production to include their Motor Yacht line. During the mid-1980's Gulfstar also produced a number of performance sailing yachts for the CSY charter boat fleet which again became popular in the Caribbean.
Later as production shifted away from the performance sailboats Gulfstar, then focused on the powerboat market & ultimately there after sold the business to Viking Yachts.
