Rob da Bank and Chris Rees

Common People founder Rob da Bank sailed into Southampton this week to celebrate a partnership between two of the city’s newest events.

Common People and Southampton Sailing Week both take place over the bank holiday weekend, with the third annual Common People festival happening on 27 and 28 May and the inaugural Sailing Week running from 24 to 29 May.

Organisers have joined forces to offer special tickets for people who would like to take part in the regatta as well as the music festival. Revellers can purchase combined tickets, which give access to Common People from 6pm once the sailing has finished, from just £25.

Rob da Bank, a keen sailor himself, sailed into MDL Ocean Village Marina today on a Sunsail F40 to make the announcement.

He said: “I grew up a few miles from Southampton and sailing was my life until i left home…  alongside music, it’s my greatest passion. My festival Common People is all about music, arts and community. One of Southampton’s greatest strengths is the sense of community built around the water and a love for sailing, and also around music and art in the clubs and venues. So, it feels like the perfect match for Southampton Sailing Week and Common People to come together and get the party started, launching an amazing week of activities over water and onto the common.”

Chris Rees, organiser of Southampton Sailing Week, added: “We’re big fans of Common People here at Southampton Sailing Week so we’re delighted to partner with Rob and his team. It means those taking part in Sailing Week will still get to catch some of the brilliant acts performing this year.”
