Cruiser For Sale In Aid Of Sail 4 Cancer
A Round-The-World cruising yacht is being sold by its owner to raise funds for UK sailing charity Sail 4 Cancer.
The Warwick 46, similar to the more usual Cardinal 46 but with a centre instead of an aft cockpit, was built by the Tania Yacht Company in Taiwan and first launched in 1993. The yacht is currently berthed in the ACI Dubrovnik marina and is in excellent condition.
The yacht was bought by the present owner in 1996 having been sailed by the first owners from Taiwan to the South of France. In addition to completing several transatlantic voyages including the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers), the deep water cruiser also acted as the principal radio yacht for the 1998 Expo ’98 Round-The-World Rally which saw the yacht circumnavigate the globe along the classic ‘milk-run route’.
Starting in the Canaries, the course took the fleet across the North Atlantic, through the Panama Canal, across the Pacific, round the north of Australia, over to South Africa, round the Cape of Good Hope, across to Brazil via St Helena, up to the Caribbean and back across the North Atlantic from Antigua to the finish line in Lisbon. Between Salvador (Brazil) and Tobago, the yacht achieved an impressive 640 nm in just three days.
The current owner has decided to sell the yacht to raise funds for Sail 4 Cancer in a tax efficient way. The proceeds of the sale will help the charity to expand its water-based respite programme which helps over 400 British people affected by cancer every year.
Andrew Hayward, Trustee of Sail 4 Cancer, explained, “Sail 4 Cancer’s boat donation initiative is designed to help people sell their boats quickly in a tax efficient manner aided by the UK’s Gift Aid scheme. It’s a fantastic way to manage a valuable asset within your estate whilst also helping families who are living in very difficult circumstances.”
He continued “We are incredibly grateful to the owner for his incredible generosity. The sale of this boat will directly help families living with cancer. Last year we provided 1,500 respite days for roughly 400 people living in very difficult circumstances. This wonderful gift will help us to deliver a similar number next year as well.”
Andy concluded “Given the build quality of the Taiwan yard and the retained value of Alan Warwick designed boats, the yacht is being offered for sale at a very reasonable price of 80,000 Euros. This is the perfect yacht for anyone who is looking for a proven blue water cruiser.”
Sail 4 Cancer was set up in 2001 by a group of keen sailors who have all lost a close friend or family member to cancer. Importantly, the charity recognises that cancer has a profound impact on the whole family unit and not just the diagnosed individual. Consequently, Sail 4 Cancer’s days out and short breaks give the whole family something to look forward to and also provide valuable memories if the cancer patient later dies.
