Dementia Sails along the south coast by Sail Boat Project
Sail Boat Project has teamed up with Dementia Adventure to organise subsidised sailing trips for people living with dementia in Sussex and their carers.
They are offering subsidised places for people living with dementia and a family member, carer or friend to join them on one day (£110 for two people) or three day (£330 for two people) sailing trips in May and July along the south coast on the training vessels ‘Jalapeno’ and ‘Cascadeur’. This work is supported by a grant from Sussex Community Foundation.
“We hope to create lasting memories for people with dementia” said Sail Boat Project skipper Ben Gillett. “These trips will give people with dementia the opportunity to have engaging experiences in a safe environment with their family or carers, who will also benefit from the new and exciting experience.”
The commercially endorsed skippers will be assisted by two volunteers on each trip, all of whom have been trained in working with people with dementia by Dementia Adventure.
