Devon and Cornwall Police Sailing Regatta
The Devon and Cornwall Police Sailing Regatta Hosted at Brixham Yacht Club on 9 June. The event was organised by Rob Savage and Ian Tomlinson with help from Brixham Yacht Club. The idea was to encourage members of the Police to get out on the water and experience racing/sailing.
On the day the winds were light but sufficient for a fleet of 15 boats ranging from a fleet of four Hunter Sonators to Ellann 33’s and a Bavaria 42 footer. The boats were skippered by the owners and crewed by Police.
This was the second regatta and the aim is for it to grow with next year having an invitation boat crewed by Lifeboat members – Torbay Hospital staff and the local Fire brigade.
Force 2 – 3 North-westerly Winds in the bay gave for exciting and close starts. They managed three races within the bay starting at 11:55 for the first warning signal. They were back on shore for 17:00hrs for a quick shower and to the bar where a hearty curry was served to all sailors.
Prize giving followed with the winners being APIANO (Hunter Sonator) closely followed by Jem a J 24.
Spoof prises of wine were given for the following:MIS CONDUCT WAWARD – Crew member who made the most ridiculous mistake
Captain Birds Eye award – Crew member who most looked like the distinguished captain himself
Jeremy KYLE award – Boat who made the most noise and was mostly anti-social at sea
Gok Whan Alkaloid – Best dressed suitably dressed sailor.
