Falmouth Harbour’s new “Marine Hub” has been joined by a team of marine engineers, strengthening this focal point of expertise for the community’s yacht and boat owners right in the heart of town.
Coastside Engineering Services have taken up a “pod” at the Harbour’s Grove Place slipway alongside Allspars Falmouth – one of the UK’s top yacht rigging and spar fabrication experts – giving them quayside workshop space to work both on-site or quickly mobilise to wherever their water-borne customers may need them.
Joel Thomas and Chris Powell have thirty years of marine engineering experience between them and the opportunity to locate their new Falmouth operations at such a prime location was too good to miss. The Coastline Engineering Services team handles everything from minor repairs and essential boat servicing and winterising, to detailed diagnostics and full boating setup.
“Chris and I are thrilled to be a part of the Marine Hub for Falmouth at this time of incredible growth for the Harbour,” says Coastside’s Joel Thomas. “The Falmouth Harbour team have such a drive and passion and they’re at the forefront of new technologies and innovations for the marine sector in Cornwall – so to work alongside them is an honour.”

Falmouth Harbour is responsible for a huge body of water and a variety of stakeholders spanning from Black Head to the Dodman including Falmouth Bay, the Helford and Percuil rivers, the Carrick Roads and the River Fal. The Harbour’s Marine Hub of related operations, working alongside traditional boat storage on Grove Park waterfront site, aims to make a variety of marine services readily accessible to the wider Falmouth boating community as well as visitors throughout the year.
“We are building a unique community of like-minded marine service businesses right in the heart of Falmouth – a town steeped in maritime history and influence,” says Falmouth Harbour’s Head of Commercial Operations, Holly Manvell. “Joel and Chris, with their passion and enthusiasm for service excellence, will be well at home in our Marine Hub working alongside the fantastic Allspars Team.
“For centuries our harbour has been a centre for building, servicing and teaching just about everything ‘marine’, so to help provide facilities, skills and opportunities to continue this legacy is both a privilege and a responsibility for our Falmouth Harbour team.”
Coastside Engineering’s Chris Powell adds, “Joel and I have always had a deep love of all things marine-related. We both grew up on the coast, and boating was and is a key part of our lives. We have now spent over 30 years between us in the marine industry working with some incredible people and the skills we have learnt along the way have allowed us to launch our own business. We can’t thank Falmouth Harbour enough for the support and help they have given us on our journey to starting our new business and we’re looking forward to this exciting year.”

Falmouth Harbour’s Marine Hub currently has one unit left available for the use of marine businesses exclusively. For interest and enquiries, please contact info@falmouthharbour.co.uk and for detailed information on the work and services of Falmouth Harbour visit www.falmouthharbour.co.uk
