Final two winners announced in 2019 ilovesailing calendar competition
It’s a double win for Shaun Roster and Steve Cayley as they both secure their second win in the 2019 calendar competition and the final two spots on the 2020 ilovesailing calendar.
Shaun from Southsea and Steve from Torquay, clinched the final two spots after having their photos selected from all the entries received since the competition opened in March.
Commenting on his winning photo entitled, ‘Mini Me – Cowes Week’, Shaun, who was also a winner in April, said: “I’m delighted to have been selected yet again to feature in the 2020 ilovesailing calendar. This is one of my recent most favourite images and its great know it will be shared and enjoyed by a great many sailors in next year’s calendar.”
Shaun added: “The image was taken during Cowes Week 2018. Lady Mariposa a Ker46 steaming downwind as the Quarter Tonner ‘Joker’ heads upwind.”
While Steve, who was also a winner in July, commented: “It was surprise enough to be told that I had made the calendar for the 3rd year running. Now to find I have had two photos selected for 2020 is way beyond my expectations. Delighted and proud to be selected again. Thank you!”
Talking of his winning photo entitled ‘Anticipation’ Shaun added: “It was one of those mornings you’re pleased you made the effort to get up early. It was a gorgeous golden sunrise on the Exe Estuary with the mist making it all the more spectacular. And just when I thought the best of the conditions had passed the mist rolled back in resulting in this photo. Out of sight the crew of the first yacht on the mooring were on deck, waiting for the mist to clear, in anticipation of setting sail.”
A total of 133 entries were received in the 2019 calendar competition with all the winners claiming a prize package consisting of:
- A spot on the 2020 ilovesailing calendar
- Canvas print of their winning photo
- Two tickets to the Southampton Boat Show where the official prize giving will take place, plus afternoon tea in the RYA Members’ Lounge
- An RYA goody bag
- And of course…. the ilovesailing rubber duck
“Our final two winners complete what is a stunning line up of photos for the 2020 calendar”, commented Emma Slater, ilovesailing co-ordinator. “Now in its seventh year the calendar competition really goes to show the diversity and beauty of sailing and it is always a delight to see the images sent in each month.
“My thanks to everyone who took part throughout the year, we can’t do it without you. I for one am extremely excited to see all the winning entries in print on the 2020 calendar.”
