The organisers have published the full programme of over 75 events which will be celebrated over two long weekends commencing 6 September. You can just turn up for most events but some need booking for reasons of security or group size. For the events that require booking, this can be done online at www.gosportheritage.co.uk. Bookings for Haslar Hospital guided walks can only be made in person at the Tourist Information Centre at the Bus Station.

Many of the events are very close to Gosport’s marina so a run ashore is ideal to make the most of the weekends. All events are free, and many allow access to places which are not normally open to the public. There will be plenty for all ages, interests and abilities to enjoy: family fun days, music, exhibitions, guided walks, talks, tours, quizzes and many more. There will also be events designed especially for the visually impaired and there will be provision for wheelchairs at as many events as possible.

As events will be spread over a longer period it provides more flexibility for those who want to enjoy exploring Gosport’s heritage by making it less hectic for some and easier for people to plan visits to more events.

Gosport ran the first pilot events back in 1992 and now Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture.

For those who struggle with bookings they can be assisted by ringing 07849 399823 or emailing booking@gosportheritage.co.uk. The full programme can be picked up from many places in the Gosport and Fareham area including the Tourist Information Centre, libraries, chandlers, museums, clubs, pubs and many other outlets as well as online at www.gosportheritage.co.uk
