James Crossley

Marlow’s commitment to supporting grass roots sailing continues in 2019 with the announcement of two new youth sailing sponsorships and a new kitefoil racer ambassador.

James Crossley, who currently holds the Topper 4.2 National trophy and gained great success at the ITCA NS2 in Weymouth, was announced as a Marlow sponsored sailor in March. He achieved third at the Island Barn Barnstormer and ‘first Topper’ at the Bloody Mary in January.  Most recently he won the Southern Traveller and came second at the South-East Traveller.

Emily Mueller and Florence Brellisford, the 29er’s tipped for success since qualifying for the British Sailing Development team in 2017, were announced as Marlow sponsored sailors in April. Both graduated from the Optimist class last year at the top of the leader boards.  Emily was also named overall British Champion and went on to win Sailor of the Year at the British Yachting Awards 2018.

Paul Honess, Leisure Marine Director, Marlow Ropes said: “A key part of James, Emily and Florence’s sponsorship roles will be testing Marlow’s Excel R8 and Racing GP78 products as control lines, sheets and D12 Max 78 as a traveller. These new youth sponsorships are very important to our Youth fleet strategy.  Supporting them at this crucial stage in their development will be key for their success and we look forward to working with them over the forthcoming sailing season.”

Marlow also announces a new British Youth Ambassador for 2019. British Sailing Team’s top kite-foil racer, Connor Bainbridge, takes up the mantle of Marlow Ambassador and will be working with Marlow to help develop the Kiteline and Dinghy range.

Last year Connor finished second in the kite foil world ranking. With the fleet becoming faster and more competitive he spent the winter training in Baja California, Mexico. Connor took third place in the recent Pro Tour event and will compete in the World Championship in May on Lake Garda.

Paul Honess said: “Marlow Ropes’s commitment to innovation in the kite-foiling market has  stepped up a pace with new products specifically developed for this terrifyingly fast sport and the announcement of our new ambassador – kitefoil racer, Connor Bainbridge.”

Connor said: “Kite-foiling is one of the fastest sailing disciplines. With these speeds, there is always a risk so I love working with Marlow Ropes and using their products, namely D12 SK99and Kite Line Race 1.3mm as it gives me complete confidence in my set-up. I’m really looking forward to how we can develop the range in the future.”

Marlow Ropes is supplier to the British Sailing Team and the British Youth Sailing Development squads ahead of Tokyo 2020. It supports and works with talented individuals across the sailing sector gaining invaluable technical insight into how its hi-spec lines perform, all the while helping to push professional and aspiring sailors ever closer to their podium dreams.
