Rockley Watersports further develops educational offering
The new September term sees Rockley Watersports welcome new year one and returning year two BTEC students, as well as new Apprentices and NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Sport pupils to Rockley Point.
Brand new for 2019 is the addition of the Rockley Outdoor Activity Instructor Apprenticeship programme. The one-year outdoor instructor development programme has been included to offer further earn-while-you-learn options for Rockley’s BTEC graduates. A strong number of applications were received for this new position and Rockley chose six candidates to work alongside the Rockley Education team at Rockley Point. The apprentice instructors will receive on-the-job training and work-based learning while obtaining further opportunities to upskill.
Rockley’s Head of Education Clare Hicks commented; “As I head into my second year at Rockley, I am really excited to be starting the new term with an enhanced training programme. Along with welcoming many more students to Rockley Point this September we have also appointed two new BTEC teachers. The growing Rockley Education team now includes Lee Timothy and Alex Murphy who bring with them a wealth of experience and knowledge.”
Rockley Education recently announced the new NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Sport to the education programme, working in partnership with SCL Education & Training. The brand new one-year course is a unique vocational training for students aged 16 years and over.
BTEC and vocational students can often be better prepared in terms of the independent studying that’s required at degree level, due to the portfolio-based nature of BTEC courses. Ninety five percent of universities and colleges in the UK accept BTEC students.
Rockley Watersports MD, Pip Woods said: “During the ten years of providing the BTEC Level 3 Sport (Outdoor Adventure) extended diploma we have seen many students develop their watersports careers and go on to university.
“We are really pleased to have launched the new apprenticeship scheme which, along with our Leap for Success scholarship programme, will help to provide further training options for graduating BTECs and help bridge the industry skills gap.”
Rockley Watersports’ educational section of the business, Rockley Education was introduced in 2018 and is based at the main UK Training centre in Poole.
