Sailing Taster Sessions a big success
The Royal Torbay Yacht Club hosted the RYA’s Annual “Push the Boat Out” free sailing taster sessions this May – with dozens of Torbay families taking part.
The programme enables anyone to try the sport of sailing with a fully qualified instructor. Participants were suited and booted at the Yacht Club before heading to Haldon Pier to hop onto an inflatable craft and whisked away to their sailboat, waiting in the bay. A range of craft were available to try, from sleek dinghies to larger sportsboats for the adventurous. The feedback from the new sailors, fresh and rosy-cheeked from an hour on the water was a resounding “Brilliant!”
Entire families were on the water together, proving that sailing is a sport for young and old and all abilities. The RTYC is pleased that over 20 new individuals and families have joined the club for 2018 after their sailing taster session, showing that once you’ve tried sailing, you will want to go again and again.
The Royal Torbay Yacht club offers dinghy and life vest hire to members for a low price so members don’t need equipment to enjoy this exhilarating sport. Sailing courses are carried out by RYA-qualified instructors, and the Torbay Youth Sailing Trust offers subsidised courses to school-age students in and around Torbay.
