Two Boats – Yards Away but Years Apart
One of the great aspects of being a yacht broker is the variety of boats we deal with. Two boats recently listed with Boatshed Dartmouth epitomise perfectly this variety and both, strangely, are actually on the same marina.
The Sunseeker Camargue 50 is without doubt a stunning looking boat. Sleek lines and a large open cockpit with a huge wraparound settee make this the boat to be in and be seen in. Lift up the centre cushion in the cockpit settee and an ingeniously designed folding table rises up and deploys with the assistance of gas struts. Along the starboard side of the cockpit, there's an extensive entertainment area that serves as an outdoor galley, with a small refrigerator, a grill, a moulded-in sink and lots of storage underneath. At the stern an oversized bathing platform makes for easy boarding and a hydraulic passerelle makes it even easier still when moored stern to.
And at sea she purrs along at 30 knots powered by twin 660hp Caterpillars, the hull comfortably rising to the plane.
Down below this Sunseeker is all about luxury. Curvy lines, cherry wood cabinetry and in the case of this example, cream leather throughout. Somehow Sunseeker managed to fit in large forward and aft double cabins and still leave room for the aft garage which opens up at the flick of a switch. Inside there’s enough room for a 10’ hard bottomed inflatable which is effortlessly retrieved with a remote controlled winch.
Sitting a few berths away but many years apart is a classic Open Launch that in her day was probably the height of luxury. Dating from the early 1950’s it is believed this 22’ launch was built by Powercraft of Shadycombe, Salcombe as a bass fishing boat. Its testimony to the craftsmanship of the UK boatbuilding industry that boats like these are still afloat and still bring enjoyment to their owners. This launch has been extensively restored and this season she looks resplendent in a cream painted hull. This is just the boat for gently motoring up the River Dart, coming alongside for a pub lunch at Dittisham and then just meandering back down on the ebbtide enjoying a fine summers evening.
