VIDEO: Alex On Top in Debut Route du Rhum
On 4 November no less than 123 boats departed from Saint Malo, Brittany in the 40th anniversary of La Route du Rhum: Destination Guadeloupe.
A 3,542 nautical mile solo race, La Route du Rhum sees skippers across six classes race across the Atlantic to the finish line in Pointe-à Pitre, Guadeloupe in the Caribbean.
This is the first time that Alex has competed in the race and, after four days, he leads the IMOCA class, in what has already been a eventful 11th edition.
Over a quarter of the boats which began the race have already been forced to retire, take shelter or make vital repairs. A brutal Atlantic low pressure system has torn the fleet apart with many of the starting 20 IMOCAs already experiencing technical issues or breakages.
Alex however, onboard HUGO BOSS, has continued to lead, profiting from the pursuit of a more northerly course than that taken by his closest rivals.
