The Southampton International Boat Show has announced the return of Women in Marine Day, sponsored by DF Capital, to be held on Thursday, 19 September. This day-long celebration highlights the significant contributions of women in the marine industry and provides a platform for networking, inspiration, and professional growth.

Throughout the day a series of talks from leading figures in the industry will take place on the Foredeck Stage, hosted by Hollie Smith, Operations Director at Navis Consultant, Founder of Boatbuilding News and host of the popular Boatbuilding News: The Podcast.

Already confirmed to join Hollie on stage are four-time Paralympian (Sailing), Triple World Champion, Motivational Speaker and Coach, Hannah Stodel who will be sharing her personal sailing experiences and her thoughts on inclusivity in boating.

Hollie will also be speaking to Sophie Horne, Founder and Chair at SeaBird Technologies and head designer of the RaceBird, the race boat of electric powerboat championship E1 Series, about her journey with Seabird and the launch of E1.

The day will also see the return of the highly anticipated panel discussion and networking session, which has been the cornerstone of Women in Marine Day for a number of years. Whilst the panel line up is yet to be announced, the session entitled ‘Empowering tomorrow: Inspiring the next generation and shaping our future’ is expected to provide invaluable insights into the latest trends and innovations in the marine sector, as well as the evolving roles of women in these areas.

The panel will discuss how gender diversity can drive better decision-making and innovation, highlighting successful case studies where female leadership has made significant impacts. Additionally, the session will explore effective strategies for mentoring and supporting women at various stages of their careers, from students to top executives, ensuring a robust pipeline of talent and leadership for the future of the marine industry.

Immediately following the panel, enjoy a glass of fizz and some nibbles while you continue the conversations and connect with industry peers in an inspiring networking session. Additionally, this year’s event will venture beyond the usual venue, taking place onboard Blue Funnel’s mini cruise ship, the ‘Ocean Scene’ to offer a unique setting.
