HMS Warrior 1860 marks 30th anniversary of first opening to the public at Portsmouth
Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is celebrating the 30th anniversary of HMS Warrior 1860’s first opening to the public following her triumphant return to Portsmouth.
The Portsmouth Warrior cheerleaders have marked the occasion with a special on board display and performance, whilst the Lord Mayor or Portsmouth and the Lady Mayoress, Councillor Ken Ellcome and Mrs Jo Ellcome visited this historic ship that has called Portsmouth Historic Dockyard home for the last 30 years.
HMS Warrior 1860 has dominated the seascape in Portsmouth Harbour and is undoubtedly one of the most photographed landmarks in the city. When she made her triumphant return back to Portsmouth on 16 June 1987, she was greeted with an armada of small boats, guns firing, cheering crowds, a fireworks show and thousands of red, white and blue balloons which filled the air.
