Today marks the launch of RYA Push the Boat Out- the month long event to get the nation sailing and windsurfing with free and low cost taster sessions for all.

This week there are no fewer than 110 events taking place across the UK, and 100 of these are taking place over the bank holiday weekend.

Shropshire Sailing Club are one of the many venues opening their doors to their local community.

“Push The Boat Out gives everyone the rare opportunity to try something really special in a safe, friendly and beautiful environment and for absolutely free of charge. Once you’ve tried it it’s very difficult to stop coming back” explains Commodore Colin Smith.

“All sorts of people come to our Open Day. Families with children of all ages and couples to pensioners looking to either return to sailing after years away or looking for something to keep them active”.

RYA Club Support Advisor Jackie Bennetts who manages the event said: “May is all about showcasing sailing as the fun accessible sport it is and the fact that you can do it on your doorstep.

“This weekend the weather is looking promising for getting out on the water so if you’re interested in doing something completely different, whether it’s a new way to get fit outdoors or simply a sociable fun activity you can enjoy with your friends and family, pop down to your nearest Push the Boat Out event and give it a go”.

Throughout the whole Month, there are nearly 400 sailing venues across the UK opening their doors and running free or low cost Push the Boat Out ‘have a go’ taster sessions. With sailing being one of the most inclusive sports around, there are plenty of venues able to cater for people across the spectrum of disabilities and activities for people of all ages
