Olympic Medallist Mark Covell to speak about Exposure Lights at London Boat Show
Mark Covell, Olympic Silver Medallist, offshore sailor and commentator, will be speaking about Exposure Lights at The Innovators Show, one of the new attractions at the London Boat Show.
Hosted by TV presenter Alec Wilkinson, the Innovators Show is dedicated to promoting great British innovations, inventors and ingenuity.
Exposure Lights was originally founded when engineer and cycle enthusiast Roger Farrow spotted a niche for specialist bike parts and powerful lights, which he could not find elsewhere on the market. Following much research and development, working with the likes of Mark Covell and Ian Walker’s Abu Dhabi 2011/12 Volvo Ocean Race campaign, Exposure Lights launched their first range of LED spot lights and search lights in 2012.
All British designed, engineered and assembled at its Pulborough-based factory, Exposure’s marine lights are highly powerful, long-lasting, waterproof, buoyant, lightweight, rechargeable, compact, cordless LED lights and safety torches.
They were quickly adopted by professional sailors, including Mike Golding, Dee Caffari and Alex Thomson. Most importantly, they could use one small light for trimming, close-up work, night sailing and safety purposes, discarding any heavy, cabled searchlights and environmentally unfriendly batteries on board.
By 2014, Exposure’s MOB Strobe Light scoped a DAME Award for safety equipment and have since gone on to be used extensively by amateur and professionals all over the world, including Volvo, Vendee, Figaro and Mini-Transat sailors. Exposure Lights are currently provided on board all of the Volvo boats in the current Volvo Ocean Race 2016/17.
Recent technological developments include harnessing MOB early warning systems to Exposure’s torches. Designed as an additional, low-cost safety aid for novice sailors, and particularly when sailing short handed, Exposure’s research showed even many experienced sailors have a deep seated fear of what to do if someone goes overboard.
By connecting Exposure’s OLAS mini-strobe light to your mobile via the OLAS App, your phone will sound an alarm in the event of an MOB incident and will then guide the crew left on board back to the exact point a person went overboard.
A 10 per cent discount offer will be running throughout the London Boat Show and Exposure Lights will be available via retailers: Jimmy Green Marine, Stand LC021; Andark Diving & Watersports, Stand LA050; Adec Marine Ltd, Stand LA 016
